We at Dive Funatics teach the course thoroughly every time we run a rescue course. This course serves as the foundation to pursuing more rewarding things as a dive professional in the future. After all, we help mentor and guide divers to pursue their dreams as divemasters and eventually as a dive instructors.

This PADI Rescue Diver Course package includes 3 days of in-water training, PADI Rescue Diver and EFR Primary/Secondary care eLearning materials (full version with video embedded) automatically sent shortly after successfully booking your schedule. Everything you need to get certified is included like the use of all required scuba gear, weights, tanks, instruction and certification.

Sample Schedule

This is a general schedule of the course. This offers a general idea of how your training is structured. The course is performance-based so your instructor may introduce changes depending on some unforeseen variables.

Day 1 (10am to 4pm)

Day 2 (9am to 4pm)

  • Self RescueExercise 1 – Tired DiverAssist a tired (rational) responsive diver at the surface, demonstrating:
    • Approach
    • Evaluation
    • Making Contact
    • Reassuring the Diver
    • Assists and Transport
    • Equipment Removal

    Exercise 2 – Panicked Diver

    Rescue a panicked (irrational) diver, demonstrating:

    • Approach
    • Evaluation
    • Making Contact
    • Locating Weight Releases
    • Approach with a quick reverse to stay out of a panicked diver’s grasp

    Exercise 3 – Response from shore, boat or dock (responsive diver)

    Assist a responsive diver in distress, demonstrating:

    • Nonswimming assists, including reaches/extensions and throws
    • Water entries without losing sight of the victim and paced to conserve energy
    • Swimming assists and rescues, with and without emergency floatation equipment
    • Tows with and without equipment removed, including underarm push, tank valve tow and modified tired-swimmer carry
    • Use out-of-water exits

    Exercise 4 – Distressed Diver Underwater

    1. Correctly identify and respond to a diver simulating overexertion underwater
    2. Correctly identify and respond to a panicked diver making an uncontrolled ascent
    3. Correctly identify and provide air to, via an alternate air source, a diver simulating an out-of-air emergency, and make a controlled air-sharing ascent

    Exercise 5 – Missing Diver

    Quickly and effi ciently search for and locate a missing diver using an underwater search pattern.

    Exercise 6 – Surfacing the Unresponsive Diver

    1. Use controlled positive buoyancy as an aid to ascent
    2. Bring an unresponsive diver to the surface using buoyancy control of either the unresponsive diver or the rescuer

    Exercise 7 – Unresponsive Diver at the Surface

    1. Make contact with and check for breathing on an unresponsive diver at the surface, demonstrating

    • Calling for help while establishing buoyancy and turning the diver face up
    • Removing the diver’s mask and regulator, opening airway and checking for breathing

    2. Demonstrate inwater rescue breathing using the following methods:

    • Mouth-to-pocket mask
    • Mouth-to-mouth
    • Mouth-to-nose (optional)
    • Mouth-to-snorkel (optional)

    3. While continuing effective rescue breathing, demonstrate equipment removal (victim and rescuer) while towing the diver toward an exit.

Day 3 (9am to 4pm)

  • Exercise 8 – Exiting the Unresponsive Diver
    1. Remove a breathing, unresponsive diver from the water, both with and without assistance
    2. Remove a nonbreathing diver from the water, both with and without assistance

    Exercise 9 – First Aid for Pressure-Related Injuries and Oxygen Administration

    1. Demonstrate steps and procedures for administering oxygen to a breathing, unresponsive diver with suspected decompression illness
    2. Administer oxygen to a nonbreathing diver while using a pocket mask for rescue breathing

    Exercise 10 – Response from Shore/Boat to Unresponsive (nonbreathing) Diver at the Surface

    Respond to a diver emergency that requires attending to a nonbreathing, unresponsive diver on the surface, demonstrating inwater rescue breathing, exiting the water and then providing CPR.

Reminder: Please do not forget to bring your eRecord, your medical certificate (when applicable), swim wear (rashguards, board shorts, swimsuits, etc), set of dry clothes, lunch and transportation money. Wetsuit, boots and towels will be provided for use onsite.[/su_spoiler]

Where we train?
Unless otherwise arranged or specified, training will be conducted at the house reef of Kontiki Marina, Mactan, Cebu. We meet and hangout at the Oxygen Restaurant, inside the resort in between in-water training sessions. They serve drinks, beverage and meals at a reasonable prices

Unless otherwise arranged or specified, training will be conducted at the house reef of Kontiki, Mactan, Cebu. We will conduct all our briefing at Dive Funatics Training Center inside Club Kontiki Resort.

Remedial days

In the event that you cannot meet the minimum requirements for earning certification or completing a portion of your training to move forward to certification, in 3 days, you may choose to:

  • extend your training days and conduct remedial sessions to satisfactorily fulfill all performance requirements for the course. The cost of remedial training per day is P3,500 PHP, excluding the rental of specialized equipment listed, but not limited to underwater camera, strobes, oxygen analyzers, etc.
  • get certified as PADI Scuba Diver; or
  • arrange for another center, instructor to complete the remainder of the required performance requirements to earn your certification
Rescheduling

We are committed to low training ratios and does not over-book its classes.

Our commitment to the highest level of quality training and safety is our number one goal. When you schedule a class, confined, or open water training session, you are prohibiting another customer from booking or reserving that spot.

Once you schedule your class, confined, and/or open water training sessions, you may reschedule your training sessions as long as you notify us a week before your scheduled booking with no additional penalties.

Any and every change in schedules made after the 1 week window shall be subject to P2,500 PHP rescheduling / rebooking fee provided that the notification of such change is done not later than 24 hours before the commencement of the booking date, otherwise, the booking is deemed cancelled by the customer.

Rescheduling or rebooking is only permitted within six (6) months from the initial booking date.

Booking / Deposit

We require advance booking of at least 3 days before the start of the in-water training. Your booking is only considered confirmed upon payment of the required deposit.

We require a payment of at least 50% as deposit to confirm your booking. Balance is payable and due on the first day of the training. We pass on a 5% PayPal charges and bank fees for payments made through PayPal.

We accept credit card payments via PayPal, Bank Transfers, or Cash in PHP and USD only. We do not process credit cards on site.

ATMs, Banks, and Money Changer establishments are very accessible in our area, however, when transacting, be mindful about the daily withdrawal limits imposed by your banks on foreign countries, unfavorable exchange rates, and risks of getting swindled or robbed.

A PADI (Junior) Advanced Open Water Divers who are at least 12 years old and have completed the Underwater Navigation Adventure Dive may enroll in a Rescue Diver course. We bundle the Emergency First Response Primary and Secondary Care (CPR and First Aid) training in this program. You can complete this training during the Rescue Diver course. We offer the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider specialty diver course as an option and will be taught at the same time.

Special note for people flying out after diving

There is a mandatory no fly time of at least 18 hours from the time you surface from your last dive before you can safely fly out so plan your flight bookings properly. On the other hand, there is no similar restriction on flying in and diving. Therefore, make sure to consider these when planning for your flight out following your training so you can avoid any inconvenience resulting from this.
